Terms & Conditions
Competition Terms and Conditions
Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America
Effective date: November 1, 2026. By submitting an Application you accept these Terms and Conditions.
1. The Promoter
- The promoter is The Run Buddy Ltd. with a registered address as 71-75 Shelton Street, London WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom(“Promoter” or “we”). The Promoter runs the Runna Knows: Boston Marathon 2027 judged selection process (the “Competition”).
- In these Terms: “Applicant” means a person who submits an application; “Winner” means one of the five Applicants selected; “Guest” means the one companion a Winner nominates; “B.A.A.” means the Boston Athletic Association; “Boston Marathon” means the 2027 Boston Marathon on 19 April 2027; and “Participant Agreement” means the separate agreement each Winner signs with the Promoter.
- If documents conflict: these Terms prevail over the Runna Terms of Use for the Competition; the Runna Privacy Policy prevails on personal data; and the Participant Agreement prevails on a Winner’s obligations.
2. Eligibility
- The Competition is open to residents of the United States, UK and Ireland who are at least 18 years of age at the time of entry.
- Employees of the Promoter and its group companies, their immediate families, and anyone professionally connected with the Competition are not eligible to enter.
- Entrants must submit an original application and meet all of the following requirements:

(b) run at least once or twice a week and have completed at least a half marathon in the last 12 months;

- Limit of one (1) application per person. Multiple or automated entries will be disqualified. Information must be accurate and your own work.
- No paid subscription is required to enter or to win. A free Runna Training Plan subscription (including a free trial) is sufficient to apply, and Winners receive their Premium Runna plan access as part of the Prize.
- Submitting an application does not require an Applicant to accept a trip if selected, and does not guarantee selection. It registers the Applicant for assessment against Runna’s selection criteria.
5. Judging Criteria (Skill-Based, Not a Lottery)
- This is a game of skill. Chance plays no part in determining the Winners.
- Applicants are assessed in three stages:
(a) eligibility check: Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements;
(b) assessment by two independent reviewers against the selection criteria, after which applications are summarised and weighted according to those criteria; and
(c) virtual interview: applications that advance are invited to a virtual interview.
- At the end of the three stages, five (5) Applicants will be selected as Winners of Boston Marathon places.
- Entries will be scored on the following weighted criteria:
- Personal story (50%): Why running Boston is meaningful to the applicant
- Content potential (35%): Whether there is an authentic story we can build content around through their journey
- Training commitment (15%): Willingness and ability to commit to structured training
- The judging panel comprises two independent reviewers and the interview panel, each appointed by the Promoter.
- The decision of the judges is final and binding. No correspondence will be entered into.
6. The Prize
- Each of the five Winners will receive: a Boston Marathon race bib; four nights’ hotel accommodation (Thursday to Monday) for the Winner and Guest capped at $300 per night; return flights for the Winner and Guest up to £800 each; ground transport including Boston airport collection, event travel, and race start line transport; meals at Runna team events only; and a Runna Boston Marathon training plan. Approximate value per Prize: ~£4,500 / $5,800 USD.
- Prizes are non-transferable and non-exchangeable, and no cash alternative will be offered. We may substitute a Prize element with one of equal or greater value.
- Anything not listed, including insurance, visas, other meals and spending money, is the responsibility of the Winner to purchase and pay for. Runna will not provide, arrange, or pay for these items or expenses. Winners are responsible for any taxes arising from receipt or use of a Prize, except as otherwise required by applicable law, and may be required to provide information or documentation reasonably necessary for applicable tax reporting or withholding.
7. Winner Notification & Claiming
- Winners will be notified by email on or around November 27, 2026.
- Each Winner must sign and return the Participant Agreement within 5 business days of notification. If a Winner refuses or fails to sign and return it within that period, or cannot be contacted within that period, the place is forfeited and the Promoter may offer it to another shortlisted Applicant selected through the same merit-based judging process.
- We may verify any information you provide, including your running history and weekly running frequency, and may disqualify you if it cannot be verified.
8. Intellectual Property & User Content
- By submitting an application, the entrant retains ownership of the application’s underlying content but grants the Promoter a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, display and publish the entry for marketing and promotional purposes related to the Competition.
- Winners agree that we may use their name, image, voice and story worldwide in connection with the Competition and Runna marketing in perpetuity, without further payment, to the extent permitted by law.
- The Creator shall share weekly short-form videos documenting their training journey. The Creator shall also attend filming sessions with the Runna team approximately once per month, on dates to be agreed in advance by both parties.
9. Data Protection (GDPR)
- The Promoter is the data controller. Personal data supplied during the Competition will be processed in accordance with applicable data protection laws, including the GDPR, UK GDPR and applicable US state laws.
- Entry data will be used to run the Competition, verify eligibility, contact Applicants and, for Winners, publicity. Marketing communications will only be sent if the entrant has given separate, active opt-in consent.
- Our legal bases and your rights are set out in the Runna Privacy Policy at https://www.runna.com/legal/privacy-policy which forms part of these Terms.
- Applications are stored securely in Typeform. Applications that advance to the second stage are also saved in a restricted Runna Google Drive folder. All other application data is deleted on February 1, 2027. We do not collect video or other content assets at the application stage. - Subject to the above, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from the Competition or the Prize, including B.A.A. decisions or event changes, travel disruption, third party acts or technical failures, except where caused by our breach or negligence. The B.A.A. is independent of the Promoter.
- Marathon running carries risks. Winners confirm they are fit to train and run, should seek medical advice before doing so, and take part at their own risk, subject to the first bullet of this clause.
- The Competition is not sponsored, endorsed or administered by Instagram, TikTok, or any other social media platform, and you release them from any liability connected with it.
12. Disqualification, Changes & General
- We may disqualify any person who breaches these Terms, provides false information or acts unfairly.
