If you’re chasing a marathon personal best, your training matters - but so does your course. Some races are simply built for speed. Think flat roads, cool weather, wide turns, and elite competition that pulls the whole field along.

Whether you’re hoping to break 4 hours, run your first sub-3, or just see how fast you can go over 26.2 miles, choosing the right race can make a big difference. Here are some of the fastest, most exciting marathon courses in the world.

Berlin Marathon (Germany)

If there’s one marathon that has earned the title of “the fastest in the world,” it’s Berlin.The course is famously flat, with wide roads and very few sharp turns. Add in cool September weather and an electric atmosphere, and you have the perfect recipe for fast running. It’s no surprise that multiple men’s marathon world records have been set here.

Chicago Marathon (USA)

Chicago is another dream course for runners who want to go fast. The route is incredibly flat, weaving through the city with long straight sections that make pacing easy.
